Review by Mark E. Hampton for Fisher-Price Elmo's World Talking Cell Phone Rating: My wife picked this toy up a few months ago for our twins to use. When we took it out of the box and removed the Volume Tag, the volume decreased to an almost "too faint to hear" level. So the kids basically ignored it. Today I decided to "fix" the thing. I removed the four screws holding it together, separated the top and bottom halves, then placed a tiny folded-up piece of cardboard (paper will do) into the little square "volume control" inside the device. Once you separate the metal contacts, the volume goes back to the level it was when it was in the box! It was very easy to do and only took me about 15 minutes. All you need is a Philips screwdriver and a tiny piece of cardboard, plastic or paper.

Now the kids LOVE it!

IF YOU HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM I DO, THEN LISTEN UP. I THREW AWAY THE BOX THAT THE PHONE CAME IN, SO I DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO GO BY. I SAW A REVIEW ON HERE BY A LADY THAT SAID THAT IF YOU LEFT A VERY SMALL PIECE OF THE PLASTIC FROM THE ORIGINAL BOX IN THE LITTLE TINY SLIT IN THE TOP RIGHT HAND SIDE ON THE BACK OF THE PHONE, THEN IT WOULD STAY LOUD, BUT I DIDN'T HAVE A BOX!!! SO I TOOK A BREAD TIE, AND STUCK IT IN THE BACK OF THE PHONE, WHERE THE LITTLE SLIT IS. I CUT IT SO THAT JUST A LITTLE WAS HANgING OUT, AND FOLDED IT DOWN SO IT WOULD LAY FLAT ON THE PHONE, AND TAPED IT..NOW IT WORKS PERFECT!!!!!!!!!! SO, ANYONE WHO EATS BREAD CAN FIX THIS PROBLEM..LOL..I HOPE I'VE HELPED, ...

Review by for Fisher-Price Elmo's World Talking Cell Phone Rating: I bought this toy for my daughter who recently turned two and absolutely loves Elmo. As soon as we took the phone out of the box it removed a plastic strip from the back of the phone which causes the volume to decrease so much that you can barely hear it! While this was a huge disappointment for me my daughter on the other hand could've cared less which I guess is what is most important. Also when we received the phone, numbers 7, 8 and 9 were not working and we had to send it back for a replacement. I agree with the previous review saying that there should be a manual volume control. I'm all for safe levels but this one is so low it's almost ridiculous! I had my husband, who is a real electronics guru, pop open the back and he made it so the volume is what it was while it was in the package! My daughter is thrilled even more so with the phone now!

Review by M. Dangremond for Fisher-Price Elmo's World Talking Cell Phone Rating: I bought this toy for my 10 month old. We played with it in the store and she really enjoyed it. The way the eyes open when you flip the phone open, the picture of Elmo and Dorothy, etc. are all very cute. My one complaint is that after removing the "volume control" tab from the back of the phone, the volume plummeted. Now, I am a mom that absolutely hates loud kiddie toys. Most electronic children's toys are too loud, in my opinion. But this phone is not even at a nice, quiet level. The volume is just way too low. There is a note in the instructions that states that the volume is supposed to be lowered after the tab is removed, and that the phone is not defective when this happens. We took the toy to the grocery store and could barely hear it at all. My niece has this same toy and the volume is the same as ours. It would have been better if FP put a manual volume control on the toy instead. Bottom line: although fun, the toy must be played with in a very quiet room in order to be heard.

Review by Mrs. Fix It for Fisher-Price Elmo's World Talking Cell Phone Rating: This is so easy anyone can do it. My husband travels quite a bit, and since I can't stand to have things just laying around broken, and I for sure won't throw anything away, I've been left to figure out how to fix things on my own. If I can do it so can you! I decided to figure out what was up with this Elmo phone once and for all. After taking it apart I found that there are two metal tabs inside the slit( in the back of the phone where you had to remove the plastic tab when you took it out of the box) and when they touch the volume of the phone is lowered. When they don't touch the phone goes back to the regular audible volume. To FIX IT : The easy option A, which doesn't require you to take anything apart, is to take the piece of plastic from the original box (the one that you had to pull out in the first place to lower the volume "for the children's safety" and to cut it so that it fits into the slit without sticking out so the kids can't pull on it. Option B is to remove 6 screws (1.upper left hand corner under antenna, 2. upper right hand corner next to slit, 3.screw holding the battery cover on, remove batteries you will find 4 and 5 there. Set all of these aside. Look on the inside of the back cover where the slit comes through You'll two small pieces of metal, the top piece screwed on with a white wire coming out. This is the last screw to be removed and #6. Remove and discard. Clip the white wire where it it saudered/ connected and you can throw away the little metal piece. It is NOT needed for the toy to operate in anyway, it was only used to lower the volume. Once you've done this you can replace the lid put the screws and batteries back in and you'll have a working and AUDIBLE Elmo Phone!!

It has more quirks than any other single device I have owned. It forgets my speed dials. Prompts me for my password then forgets I entered it and prompts me again. The manual is bad. There is no support on their web site. I will never own any other LG products after this disaster.

Review by Win for LG Shine II GD710 Phone (AT&T) Rating: This is a very good phone in term of features although some of the features could have been better. First, the camera on this phone is still 2 MP just like the original Shine. I don't really do much of snap shots but I agree with some reviews that LG should at least put 3-4 MP camera on Shine 2 because the 2 MP, honestly, is almost obsolete. Second, this phone can shoot low resolution VDO. Again, I don't do much of VDO shooting so I don't expect to see 720p HD capability here, especially with the price of the phone. Therefore, it's still nice that this phone can shoot VDO even if it's only a low resolution. Third, the mobile web on this phone doesn't require a data plan. This is what I like most about this phone because I can always use internet in case of emergency to get some information while I'm not close to a computer. I know that every smartphones can do this now with extra monthly fee but to be able to get on the net with paying $30 extra is definitely a plus here. Forth, instead of the very annoying joystick they put on the original Shine, the GD710 comes with 4 ways arrows, OK button, menu and back buttons right in front of the front cover. I had the original Shine before and the joystick on that phone made me wanted to throw the phone away sometimes. Some reviews I've read said the 4 arrows look too traditional so lots of people thought this phone is not as good looking as the original. To me, I think it's perfect because the 4 arrows work a lot better. I actually gave Shine 2 four stars because of this. Fifth, this phone has bluetooth 2 instead of 1.2 that came with the original Shine. The connection is so much better and setting up with headset that support multipoint technology is so much easier. I have to carry 2 phones with me at all time so I'm always use a headset that support multipoint to connect to both phones at the same time. With the original Shine, I can't connect the phone as a secondary phone because the phone will not recognize the headset while the headset was connected to another phone. Unfortunately, my other phone doesn't recognize the headset if I set that phone as a secondary phone either. So, the way I connect both phones before was that I had to turn on bluetooth on the two phones simultaneously and pray that the Shine will get to the headset in a split second slower that the other phone so it'd work as a secondary phone with headset (apparently, the original Shine does support multipoint headset but it's always a hit or miss). Now, with Shine 2, I don't have that problem anymore. I can just connect the other phone first and then connect the Shine 2. The connection is a lot smoother without the hit or miss effect. I have been using this phone for a month and I think this is a very good phone, especially when you compare the features with the service plan. You'll get all the functions you can find on iPhone (and more in some cases) with out paying AT&T for premium data plan.

It's your basic run-of-the-mill phone,so I can't really say too much bad about it. I think it has great sound, great reception, & haven't had a problem messing up a phone number when dialing. Overall a really good phone. Only bad point is that the pictures you take with this phone can't be transfered via USB cable on to your PC. You have to e-text somebody with the picture included.

Review by A. Jacoby for LG Accolade VX5600 Phone (Verizon Wireless) Rating: I have two big complaints, but it has a lot of nice qualities too.

First, the complaints: it has a decent camera, but no way to transfer pictures to your PC besides expensive picture messaging. If you're the type that wants to pay for picture messaging, you're probably not the type that's going to buy this phone. It has a USB cable and bluetooth, but doesn't support transferring pictures via either of them. So all the pictures you take are trapped on your phone.

My second complaint is the poor sound quality. Voices sound garbled. It's bad in both directions: I'm constantly asking people to repeat themselves, and they're asking me to do the same.

Things I like: the two screens, the small size, the loud speakerphone, the searchable address book, the configurable menus, and the included ringtones.

Overall, the phone has a nice look and feel. Now if only it sounded as good as it looked and the camera wasn't crippled by lack of transfer capability...
